Head of Marketing & Communications
Job Description
Sanctuary Computer invites a seasoned marketing leader to drive end-to-end brand storytelling across the garden3d network. This remote role oversees multi-brand voice for Sanctuary Computer, XXIX, Index Space, USB Club, and garden3d TK, guiding editorial, production, paid distribution, and performance reporting. Expect a remote-first environment with a clear path to growth: starting with a four-month fractional trial at $75 to $120 per hour, with potential for a permanent role and expanding scope after proven impact. Eligible after 12 to 24 months, you may join the garden3d worker ownership program. This position requires 8+ years of marketing, content, or brand leadership experience and a strong portfolio that demonstrates taste, craft, and voice.
Responsibilities
- Own channels end to end including the garden3d Substack, podcast, Instagram, X, and the paid accounts behind them; coordinate with a core team and a rotating group of freelance editors, designers, and animators; manage a calendar that aligns about a dozen workstreams.
- Apply PESO thinking with emphasis on shared and owned media; use paid deliberately and view traditional press as a bonus rather than the focus.
- Shift seamlessly between diverse workstreams to surface compelling stories and produce work at a high standard.
- Maintain quality where output never falls below an 8/10 across posts, videos, essays, and episodes; prefer not to publish if quality is lacking.
- Craft social content that stops the scroll with a practitioner level grasp of platform mechanics and short-form video as a core capability.
- Manage a house of brands with distinct voices while keeping the umbrella story coherent and aligned.
- Own the case study production line: interview teams, shape narratives, art-direct assets, and deliver case studies that win new projects.
- Oversee websites and collateral strategy for garden3d sites, ensuring accuracy, currency, and clear communication of each studio's capabilities.
- Editorial ownership of Substack, the podcast, and transparency publications; manage calendars, standards, and growth, turning happenings into shareable work.
- Lead producing, paid, and distribution efforts: direct producers, editors, and freelancers; manage briefs, deadlines, and multiple workstreams; oversee paid spend on Meta/Instagram and other platforms; build audiences; run A/B/C testing across narratives and ad sets; manage budgets by results.
- Data-driven ROI: measure audience growth, engagement, leads, and pipeline influence; report clearly; evaluate paid spend, organic effort, and production time by return; shape the next quarter’s plan from the numbers.
- Presence in person at events, conferences, talks, Index programming, and dinners/openings; select touchpoints and bring back publishable stories.
- Model garden3d values of partnership, curiosity, and accountability; mentor teams, provide honest feedback, and recognize strong work.
- Lead or support special projects such as turning garden3d TK into a media brand, growing the podcast, launching campaigns for new Index spaces and USB Club drops, publishing the open-source P&L, building a small content studio, and systems to publish more often while maintaining 8/10 quality.

- Excellent project management: managing content calendars, production pipelines, and multiple workstreams
- Fluency in short-form video for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts with the ability to explain why each piece performed
- Proven ability to manage editors, designers, animators, and freelancers, getting better work from teams than individuals could alone
- Hands-on experience running paid social on Meta, Instagram, and other platforms: audience development, budget ownership, and A/B/C testing across narratives and ad sets
