Job Description

Join the Homer Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center and help shape how Homer is discovered. This onsite, full-time Marketing Director role builds and runs marketing strategy to promote Homer as a year-round visitor destination while strengthening the visibility and value of the Chamber and its members. You’ll lead digital channels, oversee content and campaigns, and bring back clear performance insights to the Board.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies that promote Homer as one of Alaska’s premier visitor destinations, supporting increased awareness of the Chamber and member exposure.
  • Oversee digital marketing platforms including websites, social media, visitor publications, branding, advertising, media relations, and promotional campaigns to grow tourism, community engagement, event participation, and member visibility.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, community partners, and media to tell Homer’s story through compelling content and innovative marketing initiatives.
  • Manage Chamber websites, including CMS content, functionality, user experience, and coordination with outside web developers.
  • Maintain accurate, engaging site content such as images, landing pages, and event information.
  • Monitor SEO, search engine registrations, metadata, and overall website performance; analyze traffic and recommend improvements based on analytics.
  • Coordinate CRM-related website functions with the Membership Director.
  • Implement digital marketing campaigns designed to increase website traffic and visitor engagement.
  • Create written, graphic, photographic, and video content for websites, social media, newsletters, advertising, and promotional campaigns.
  • Manage all Chamber and destination social media platforms, monitor messages, and respond to inquiries.
  • Create short-form videos, reels, and visual storytelling highlighting Homer, Chamber members, and events.
  • Maintain a digital library of photos, videos, logos, and brand assets.
  • Use AI tools responsibly to improve efficiency, research, content creation, and campaign effectiveness while maintaining brand quality.
  • Promote Homer as a year-round destination through integrated marketing campaigns and consistent branding and messaging.
  • Prepare press releases and media kits, maintain media contact lists, and coordinate media visits, influencer programs, and other tourism promotion opportunities.
  • Collaborate with tourism partners, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Serve as project manager for the annual Homer Visitor Guide.
  • Coordinate advertising campaigns and evaluate return on investment.
  • Design promotional materials, posters, signage, and event graphics.
  • Support Chamber events, trade shows, and community activities, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Prepare monthly Board marketing reports covering website, social media, email, and advertising analytics.
  • Work within the approved marketing budget, recommend new initiatives, and participate in committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects that support the Chamber’s mission.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3 or more years of professional marketing experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent design software.
  • Experience managing WordPress or comparable CMS websites.
  • Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, Google Ads, and email marketing.
  • Experience managing major social media platforms and creating short-form video.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
