Wean-to-Finish Marketing Specialist
Job Description
Iowa Select Farms is seeking a Wean-to-Finish Marketing Specialist to join its Rockwell City operations. The role focuses on identifying ideal market hogs by site, developing and executing targeted marketing plans, and coordinating cross-functional efforts to optimize hog performance and packer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine site visits to verify marketing previews, marketing plans, identification of top weight hogs, and loading accuracy in line with ISF protocols and expectations.
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve marketing and economic goals at the company level and within the geographic area, including production performance, revenue, marketing, and cost-management KPIs.
- Communicate cross-functionally on issues identified or concerns that need to be addressed by another area of the business.
- Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market.
- Ensure site managers and load crews have the supplies, tools, and facilities needed to load market hogs on schedule.
- Collaborate with the transportation department on loads that require rescheduling to maximize overall average weights and meet targets for standard deviation and coefficient of variation on non-closeout loads.
- Understand ideal market weights and adjust marketing dates through previews and physical weighing of pigs when necessary.
- Reduce sort loss premiums for individual pigs and loads while maintaining emphasis on achieving or exceeding full value market hogs to packing plants.
- Develop and implement site-specific marketing plans, with training across technical production skills, building and site maintenance, and development of finish supervisors, independent contractors, and ISF direct employees.
- Monitor overall pig health and communicate with the Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor on field developments.
- Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices and follow vehicle usage guidelines.
- Coordinate pickup and delivery of supplies in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with supervisors to identify animals needing timely euthanasia and complete the process according to ISF protocols.
- Assist leadership in strategy development and ongoing improvement efforts.
- Maintain punctual attendance and readiness to enter barns at the scheduled start times.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Previous experience in swine production operations is desired.
- Computer skills to run reports, data entry, email, Word, Excel, and navigate the tools site to locate important company documents.
- Swine production operations: 3 years (Preferred)
- Computer knowledge: 3 years (Preferred)

Purpose of Position
The role provides direct ownership of identifying, by site and route, the ideal market hogs according to system weight targets while reducing weight variation and sort losses and maximizing the share of pigs sent to a primary packer. It also involves evaluating and suggesting enhancements to marketing strategies at the barn level to meet system targets.

Work Environment
- Some tasks may be performed in outside weather conditions.
- The work environment can be loud with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations.
- Seasonal nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in winter months, may be present.
Physicality Requirements
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and communicate effectively.
- Lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders or navigate gates as part of daily tasks.
- Climb in and out of livestock trailers that can be as short as 48 inches in height.
Position Type / Hours of Work
Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week. Day shift Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work as job duties demand and additional availability during staffing challenges.
Travel
Regular travel is required, using a company vehicle.
