Job Description

Avison Young is seeking a Marketing Manager to lead the strategic marketing plan for a designated shopping center in Chicago. This onsite role works with national retail leadership to drive center performance, tenant engagement, and community presence while stewarding budgets, events, and branding initiatives. Ideal candidates will bring at least five years of marketing experience and a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, or a related field.

$98,000 - $100,200 per year

Overview

The Marketing Manager develops and oversees the center's strategic marketing plan, aligning initiatives with business objectives to support overall property performance.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, and execute the annual marketing plan and budget, incorporating research data, SWOT analysis, center goals, and strategies in collaboration with national retail leadership, management, and leasing.
  • Oversee the center marketing budget to maximize contributions from tenants, landlords, and other sources to boost traffic and sales.
  • Partner with the national retail team to implement corporate brand marketing, policies, programs, and initiatives at the field level.
  • Plan and direct advertising, public relations, special events, promotions, community programming, and retailer relations activities for the center.
  • Coordinate center events, including communications with participants, contract preparation, on-site execution, and event recaps.
  • Collaborate with the national retail team to achieve client-driven property goals in line with the center’s business plan.
  • Manage the tenant relations program and support retention through merchandising and promotional initiatives; review monthly sales data and track retailer trends.
  • Represent the center and Avison Young at community, merchant, staff, and city meetings.
  • Drive growth and engagement of digital media programs, including social media, websites, email, and mobile channels where applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, tenants, the public, national retail leaders, and ownership as required.
  • Review and approve marketing invoices, ensuring adherence to budget guidelines.
  • Secure cash sponsorships for events and community programs and explore revenue opportunities to support the marketing budget.
  • Prepare a monthly results report covering PR, advertising, events, digital and social results, sales, merchant relations, community relations, and budget variances, with ROI and KPI tracking.
  • Supervise the selection and operation of seasonal décor in coordination with the property manager and national retail team.
  • Monitor common areas and the customer journey, collaborating with property management and operations to enhance day-to-day guest experience.
  • Support leasing efforts by providing assets and information to the leasing and specialty leasing teams, including property photography.
  • Work extended hours, including weekends, as needed to achieve property results.
  • Supervise all other aspects of marketing as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, or a related discipline, plus a minimum of five years of experience in marketing, special events, communications, or related fields; prior management experience preferred, ideally in the shopping center industry.
  • Proven creativity and innovation, strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with desktop, graphics, and presentation software and related technology.
