Job Description
The Venice Symphony in Venice, FL seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan aligned with the organization’s goals as determined by Symphony leadership. The role analyzes and tracks ROI across marketing, advertising, and social media to drive ticket sales, attract diverse audiences, and sustain customer and donor loyalty and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute campaigns for season subscriptions, individual concerts, and renewals, including strategic ad placement, securing free and earned media coverage, and social media promotion. Manage campaigns across print, television, radio, digital, and social channels.
- Oversee digital and print concert programs from concept through printing and distribution.
- Collaborate with designers and staff on layout; proofread and fact-check all copy, including material from Symphony staff and guest artists.
- Foster relationships with local businesses and individuals to promote and secure advertising in the Symphony program, meeting budget goals; maintain advertiser connections via direct contact, emails, and event invitations.
- Create, design, and send email campaigns and newsletters to general and segmented audiences to raise awareness and drive ticket sales, donations, and community involvement.
- Protect the Symphony brand across graphics, imagery, language and messaging; address branding issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with an off-site website manager to maintain and update content on the Symphony website; stay informed about WordPress and related tools.
- Develop and implement innovative marketing strategies to increase community involvement and awareness at concerts and on social media, including interactive experiences, promotions and contests. Engage staff, board, volunteers and others to support marketing efforts and the Symphony’s mission.
- With the external public relations team and leadership, craft compelling copy and stories to promote the 50th anniversary season.
- Monitor and promptly respond to public comments and inquiries on social media.
- Write, distribute and coordinate press releases; arrange interviews and follow up on publicity requests to drive organic media coverage.
- Create and update in-house publications, brochures, flyers, fact sheets and educational materials; collaborate with staff and external designers/printers to deliver on-brand assets.
- Respond swiftly to any communications or public relations crises in coordination with leadership; serve as the primary media contact in designated crisis situations.
- Supervise and support the Digital Marketing Specialist.
- Work with Symphony leadership to set targets for audience diversification, engagement and organizational growth.
- Attend events and meetings hosted by chambers of commerce, nonprofits, and other organizations to promote the Symphony and support allied efforts.
- Maintain and organize media and document assets in Dropbox.
- Create and distribute post-concert surveys and analyze results to optimize future patron experiences.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Marketing Committee and provide requested statistical and demographic information.
Requirements
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills; related field preferred. Writing samples required with application.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience using Dropbox, Google Drive, Adobe, Zoom, and other tools essential for daily duties.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Canva or similar design software.
- Proven experience with CMS platforms and email marketing tools such as Mailchimp and Constant Contact.
- Experience managing and growing professional social media channels.
- Strong capabilities in strategic planning and project management.
- Supervisory and mentoring experience.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends during the concert season as needed.
- High work ethic and commitment to a collaborative, dedicated team.
