988 Marketing Specialist

The Mental Health Association in Essex County is hiring a 988 Marketing Specialist to lead multichannel marketing initiatives that increase awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and encourage appropriate use. This hybrid role supports outreach, content creation, community education, and performance reporting, with a focus on safe, non-stigmatizing, culturally responsive communications.

About the role

You will develop and execute marketing strategies across digital and traditional channels to promote 988 services, differentiate 988 from 911 clearly, and support mental health education and crisis resources. The work includes coordinating outreach with community partners and helping ensure messaging accuracy in collaboration with clinical or QA staff.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement campaigns that promote 988 services
• Increase community awareness of when and how to use 988
• Ensure messaging clearly differentiates 988 vs. 911
• Support public education around mental health and crisis resources
• Build partnerships with community organizations, schools, and providers
• Conduct presentations, trainings, and outreach events
• Represent the organization in community meetings and forums
• Expand outreach to underserved and high-need populations
• Develop marketing materials including flyers, brochures, toolkits, and presentations
• Create and manage social media and digital content
• Maintain all content as trauma-informed, person-centered, and non-judgmental and stigma-reducing
• Ensure communications follow Vibrant safe messaging guidelines, avoiding sensationalizing or triggering language
• Promote help-seeking behavior in a safe and supportive way
• Collaborate with clinical or QA staff to ensure accuracy of crisis-related content
• Monitor engagement and respond appropriately to public inquiries
• Follow internal protocols if individuals express crisis needs online
• Track outreach activities and campaign performance; analyze engagement data and adjust strategies as needed
• Prepare reports on outreach impact and community reach and support program reporting requirements
• Ensure outreach strategies are inclusive and accessible, including materials for diverse populations (language, literacy, accessibility)
• Engage with culturally specific organizations and communities to promote equitable access to 988 services
• Work with program leadership, counselors, and external partners, including coordinating messaging during high-demand or crisis events
• Support internal communications related to 988 services

Requirements

• High school or equivalent (Required)
• Driver’s License (Required)

Location and work style

This position is based in Westport, NY and is hybrid. The role includes field-based work as needed to support program operations, including in-person meetings, trainings, community outreach, and coordination with external partners.

Pay and schedule

• Pay: From $23.00 per hour
• Expected hours: 35.0 per week
