Senior Digital Marketing Strategist
Job Description
Senior Digital Marketing Strategist role at Indie Consulting, LLC focused on digital shelf strategy, content strategy, AI driven discoverability, and retailer optimization, with a hybrid schedule in New York, NY or Raleigh, NC.
Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle digital shelf strategy engagements for clients across CPG and retail, from discovery and audits to framework development and activation.
- Partner with client stakeholders as a senior strategic advisor, guiding working sessions, presenting recommendations, and enabling clear decision making.
- Create strategic frameworks that define best in class content standards for retailer PDPs, brand-owned sites, and D2C experiences, translating them into actionable briefs for client and creative teams.
- Identify opportunities, competitive gaps, and optimization priorities across a client’s digital shelf footprint.
- Own written content strategy across the full 7OA stack, including title and SKL optimization, bullet copy, below-the-fold descriptions, A+ premium narrative, and brand store storytelling.
- Brief and shape visual content with precision—A+ module direction, brand store art, and shoot-ready shot lists, with the ability to brief designers clearly and uphold standards.
- Write and review content as needed—SKLs, content briefs, principle frameworks, and playbooks are within scope; balance hands-on work with leadership of others.
- Translate content strategy into production-ready briefs for execution teams, photographers, and content agencies to deliver on-brief, on-time, and on-brand work.
- Advise clients on AI driven search, AEO, and large language model discoverability and how these affect product findability across retailer search and AI assisted commerce.
- Apply AEO principles to written content strategy, shaping product descriptions and benefit copy for visibility in AI generated answers, zero-click results, and agentic shopping flows.
- Stay current with evolving search and discoverability trends, retailer algorithm changes, and emerging AI commerce surfaces, translating knowledge into practical guidance.
- Prioritize content architecture and metadata strategy as foundational to digital shelf performance, not an afterthought to creative work.
- Demonstrate fluency across major retailer ecosystems—Amazon (7OA, A+ premium, brand store, Vendor and Seller Central), Walmart, Target, and emerging platforms—adapting content strategies to each environment.
- Apply best practice standards across owned and D2C digital experiences as well as retail contexts, recognizing content strategy shifts between owned and retail spaces.
- Conduct competitive audits and shelf analyses to identify gaps, benchmark performance, and surface insights that sharpen strategy.
- Manage and mentor junior strategy team members, guiding thinking, structure, and client communication.
- Delegate work thoughtfully, balancing clear direction with autonomy to support team growth.
- Model ownership, accountability, and professionalism across engagements.
- Identify risks early and lead practical, creative solutions to address them.
- Make informed decisions that balance client success, team capacity, and operational realities.
- Maintain a high bar for quality, clarity, and follow-through in all work.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of experience in digital shelf strategy, ecommerce content strategy, or retail marketing across agency, brand, or consultancy environments.
- Proven track record developing and executing content strategies for retailer PDPs, with hands-on experience on Amazon and at least one major mass retailer (Walmart, Target, or equivalent).
- Significant exposure to brand owned and / or D2C digital content, understanding how messaging differs between owned and retail contexts.
- Experience developing or briefing both written and visual content for digital commerce—SKL copy, A+ premium, supplementary imagery, and brand store.
- Working knowledge of AEO, AI search discoverability, or structured content strategy and how these intersect with product content and shelf visibility.
- Client facing experience, comfortable leading presentations, workshops, and strategic conversations with senior marketing stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills ability to craft precise briefs, content principles, or SKLs independently.
- Visual fluency to articulate what makes imagery work strategically and to brief creatives with specificity.
- Systems thinking to connect copy, visuals, metadata, and discoverability into a cohesive strategy.
- Capability to operate at multiple levels, from strategic frameworks to hands-on work on specific PDPs.
- Organized and deadline-driven with solid project management instincts and the ability to manage multiple workstreams across clients.
