Communications & Marketing Analyst, Principal
Job Description
The City of Tacoma is seeking a Principal Communications and Marketing Analyst to lead digital content creation and strategic communications within the Media and Communications Office. The role emphasizes expert digital and social content development, cross-department collaboration, and advisory support on social media strategies. This position is based in Tacoma, WA with a hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Crafts strategic digital content and oversees social media campaigns across organic and paid channels.
- Adapts communication strategy, style, and tone to effectively reach targeted audiences.
- Collects, monitors, and analyzes data and metrics using tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and in-platform reports.
- Edits and proofs content to tailor messaging for each platform and audience.
- Applies critical thinking and decision making to meet competing deadlines.
- Consults with departments about services, programs, and initiatives to prepare digital and strategic communications plans, deliverables, strategies, and evaluations, ensuring cohesive messaging across internal and external communication plans.
- Responds to emerging issues and emergencies; advises executives on social media strategies and responses.
- Writes and edits digital, social, print, podcast and voice media content, coordinating collateral production with graphic artists and other communications professionals.
- Monitors, listens, and engages with conversations across digital platforms.
- Produces digital and video content through script writing, storytelling, interviewing, and topic research.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or directly related field such as journalism
- Five years of public information, community engagement/outreach and/or marketing experience
- One year of prior experience at a senior, lead, or supervisory level
- Public sector experience preferred
- Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis

Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly compensation: USD 50 - 71 per hour
- Annual salary range: $105,643.20 - $148,740.80
