Media Strategist
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary subject-matter expert guiding the Haslam College of Business podcast content and direction
- Research, identify, and curate podcast guests aligned with university priorities, scholarly expertise, and audience interests
- Create and propose episode concepts, topics, and interview questions
- Compile background research and briefing materials for each episode
- Coordinate editorial planning, content calendars, and podcast-related activities
- Ensure podcast themes and messaging align with the institutional brand, mission, and storytelling goals
- Identify trends in higher education and student life to inform episode topics
- Draft episode outlines, show notes, titles, and promotional copy
- Review and refine content for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to university standards
- Assess listener feedback and engagement metrics to guide future content decisions
- Design and execute digital marketing strategies to promote podcast episodes and related initiatives
- Produce compelling written and visual content to support promotion across websites, social media, digital ad campaigns, emails, and other channels
- Apply SEO, GEO, and AEO best practices to descriptions, show notes, ads, web pages, and promotional content
- Derive data-informed improvements to content strategy and digital outreach
- Collaborate with designers, videographers, and marketing colleagues to create promotional assets
- Manage and monitor the HCB podcast's social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, posting, and community engagement
- Track audience engagement, respond to comments and messages, and foster an active online community
- Analyze social media and podcast performance metrics to inform content and promotional strategies
- Serve as the lead content creator and manager for the college's podcast social channels
- Produce episode-specific and overall podcast analytics reports for college partners and administrators
- Coordinate with campus partners, host, staff, agency partners, and external guests to support production and promotion
- Stay current on podcasting trends, digital marketing best practices, and higher education communications strategies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field
- Two to four years of experience in podcast production support, digital marketing, social media management, or content development
- Excellent organizational and project-management skills
- Strong research and interview preparation abilities
- Creative thinker with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor content for multiple platforms
- Working knowledge of SEO principles and digital content optimization
- Experience managing social media platforms and engagement strategies
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship
Location and Work Arrangement
Location: Knoxville, TN. This is a hybrid role requiring four days in the office and one day remote each week.
