Job Description
Take a leadership role in shaping how Greater Portland Metro communicates with riders and the broader community. The Marketing and Communications Manager plans, executes and measures marketing, public relations, rider communications and community outreach to grow ridership, strengthen the Metro brand, collaborate with regional partners, and keep the public informed about service changes and policies. This hybrid role is based in Portland, Maine, and offers a competitive salary alongside a robust benefits package.

Responsibilities
- Develops, implements and evaluates marketing plans and branding programs; forecasts future needs and opportunities.
- Oversees market research, assesses results, and adjusts strategies to meet evolving market and competitive conditions.
- Guides the preparation of marketing activity reports and presents findings to Metro Board Committees.
- Develops and manages marketing projects and operating budgets.
- Oversees and manages the District’s social media platforms and website.
- Directs editorial, branding, production and distribution of all Metro communication materials.
- Manages advertising and promotional activities across print, online, electronic media and other materials to raise public awareness of Metro.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers, stakeholders and strategic partners.
- Manages contracts with design consultants, including evaluating and selecting firms.
- Ensures a consistent image across all promotional materials and events.
- Serves as Metro’s media representative and as the public information officer when appropriate.
- Oversees and participates in community outreach efforts.
- Oversees Metro’s Title VI program related to public information and involvement.
- Assists other departments in preparing manuals, signage, communications and technical publications.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in Marketing, Communications or a related field
- Proven experience developing and executing strategic marketing, branding, and public communication plans
- Experience managing social media platforms, websites, digital communications, and content strategy for a brand-oriented organization
- Experience managing marketing budgets, vendor relationships, consultant contracts and project timelines
- High level computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and common marketing/communication tools, including social media platforms, email marketing software, and graphic design tools such as Canva or similar
