Kids In Nutrition seeks a contract Marketing and Communications Specialist to develop and deploy brand and communications strategies, expand the organization’s digital footprint, and support fundraising and outreach efforts.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, autonomous Marketing and Communications Specialist to join our small, high-impact team on a contract basis. You will serve as a key execution partner for our brand, developing and implementing messaging strategies that engage diverse audiences, elevate our presence, grow our digital footprint, and drive nonprofit growth.

Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and proofread copy for emails, websites, social campaigns, and outreach materials to convey KIN’s mission and programs.
- Support organic and paid social efforts across Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram to boost engagement and brand awareness.
- Lead content marketing by producing copy, web content, and basic visuals using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Shape and maintain the KIN brand voice and identity, ensuring alignment with messaging guidelines and visual identity.
- Design and run mini-campaigns to drive donations, sponsorships, and community support, including visuals and pitch decks.
- Develop PR strategies by drafting media pitches, maintaining media lists, and tracking coverage.
- Monitor and report monthly on marketing performance to inform data-driven decisions.
- Improve on-page SEO within Wix through keyword optimization and standard practices.
- Oversee planning and execution of marketing projects in collaboration with the KIN leadership team.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, with proven independent contractor experience.
- Exceptional copywriting and verbal skills, capable of translating nutrition, sustainability, and nonprofit concepts into engaging content.
- Strong project management and the ability to deliver autonomously with excellent organization and time management.
- Proficiency in graphic assets and short-form video content using Canva, Reels, or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Experience with digital tools including Wix (basic HTML), Mailchimp, and major social media management platforms.
- Basic web development skills are a plus.
- Ability to analyze metrics using Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and apply SEO best practices.
- Experience executing online fundraising, awareness, or crowdfunding campaigns for nonprofits.
- Collaborative with the KIN team via Slack and Google Workspace; capable of leading small cross-functional projects when needed.
- Alignment with KIN values in children’s health, nutrition education, health equity, and climate change mitigation.

Kids In Nutrition (KIN) is a nationwide, student-led movement focused on food justice, climate resilience, and improved health outcomes for youth and families through food literacy and access. We mobilize trained university volunteers as near-peer mentors to deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive curricula, empowering children with foundational nutrition knowledge and healthy, environmentally conscious habits.
