Job Description

Hybrid role in Washington, DC supporting clients through marketing and communications planning, content production, and ongoing digital updates. Smithbucklin’s Marketing & Communications Services unit offers a collaborative, multi-client environment where you can apply your writing skills, tech know-how, and project coordination experience to help nonprofits communicate effectively.

Compensation: USD 62,000 - 68,000 per year. Location: Washington, DC (hybrid). Travel: up to 10%.

This position partners with teams to conceive and implement marketing plans, manage production from copy to fulfillment, and keep client channels current across websites, email campaigns, and social media.

What you’ll do

  • Conceive and develop basic marketing plans that align to client objectives, including budgeting.
  • Oversee marketing plan implementation by creating production schedules, coordinating projects, and providing operational oversight.
  • Create marketing collateral end-to-end, from copywriting through production and fulfillment.
  • Write and manage updates for client websites.
  • Write, format, and manage client email campaigns, including distribution tool setup and analytics such as click-through rate monitoring.
  • Develop basic social media plans and manage ongoing updates across client channels.
  • Track budgets, staff time hours, and direct expenditures.
  • Support junior team members by coordinating work streams.
  • Identify and explore industry affiliation opportunities to support client objectives.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution, with a concentration in English, Journalism, Communications, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience, including marketing communications.
  • Ability to travel 10%.
  • Strong interest in marketing and communications, and the impact this function has for nonprofits.
  • Energy for learning new technologies and techniques in the marketing and communications space.
  • Tech-savvy approach and comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-client environment.
  • Ability to self-start and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects at once.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Agency and/or association management experience
  • Working knowledge of the general marketing process: research, planning, promotion, and evaluation
  • Understanding of social media and experience navigating popular outlets (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Proficiency with popular IT applications and basic understanding of HTML for web updates
  • Proficiency with basic computer programming and Microsoft Office Suite

Hybrid in Chicago or Washington, DC may be considered within Smithbucklin’s Marketing & Communications Services unit.
