Job Description

In Des Moines, Principal Financial Group is seeking a Content Marketing Strategist to shape and refine Direct-to-Consumer retirement plan content across email, direct mail, and digital channels. This onsite role focuses on translating complex financial concepts into clear, persuasive messages that move audiences along the buyer journey, driving conversions and supporting growth initiatives for retirement plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine Direct-to-Consumer content across email, direct mail, and other channels to boost conversions and retirement plan growth metrics.
  • Craft messaging aligned with the buyer journey, using audience insights and performance data to increase engagement and ROI.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, compliance, and sales teams to ensure cohesive campaign execution across channels.
  • Support A/B testing for email and direct mail to identify high-performing content, subject lines, CTAs, and layouts.
  • Produce content across formats—landing pages, print pieces, emails, and digital ads—tailored to segmented audiences.
  • Translate complex financial concepts into clear, persuasive, and actionable marketing messages.
  • Monitor campaign performance and leverage insights to refine strategies, boost conversions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed on retirement planning trends and consumer behavior to maintain competitive messaging and positioning.
  • Contribute to business growth through strategic storytelling that highlights the value of Principal's products and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of related content marketing experience, preferably with Direct-to-Consumer campaigns and financial products
  • Proven ability to create content that drives conversions across email, direct mail, and other marketing channels
  • Proficient in A/B testing strategies and analyzing results to optimize content effectiveness
  • Strong storyteller capable of simplifying complex topics into reader-friendly content
  • Experience managing full-scale, integrated marketing campaigns with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Solid editorial, proofreading, project management, and communication skills with AP Style experience
  • Ability to translate analytics into meaningful content strategies
  • Nimble, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with retirement planning or financial services is preferred
  • Knowledge of Principal Financial Group products and customer journey is a plus

Compensation

Salary: USD 84,600 - 132,000 per year. Non-sales positions may participate in a bonus program; sales incentives and potential bonus plans may apply. Final compensation is determined by location, experience, education, licensure requirements, and skill level at offer.

Travel

Some travel required, including occasional overnight stays.
