Job Description

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is hiring a Social Media & Marketing Coordinator to act as the digital voice of the Alumni Association. This hybrid role in Ann Arbor helps advance the organization’s engagement and storytelling through day-to-day social media execution, performance tracking, and event coverage, while supporting AAUM values.

Working within the Alumni Association, you will collaborate with marketing and content teammates to plan and deliver content, grow channel presence, and contribute to marketing initiatives and digital operations. The position is full-time, regular, and FLSA-exempt, with work hours that may include evenings and weekends to support alumni events and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of and execute the social media strategy in collaboration with marketing and content teammates to meet goals for engagement, marketing conversion, and storytelling.
  • Grow the Alumni Association’s social media presence by curating and creating day-to-day content, including copy, basic graphics, photos, and videos.
  • Create, edit, and publish short-form video.
  • Maintain consistency of content, tone, and voice with Alumni Association brand guidelines.
  • Track KPIs, analyze performance data, and generate reports to evaluate campaign and content effectiveness.
  • Maintain the long-term publishing calendar, identifying timely and relevant ideas and coordinating with internal teams to develop engaging content.
  • Provide live coverage for signature events, including photos and videos.
  • Engage digital communities by monitoring and moderating comments and sentiment, responding to questions and conversations, and escalating when needed.
  • Support paid media initiatives as needed.
  • Execute basic database queries to segment audience communications.
  • Represent the Alumni Association in the University of Michigan social media community of practice, collaborating with partners across schools, colleges, units, and campuses.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices, testing new ideas, researching new channels, and adjusting existing channels based on effectiveness.
  • Support marketing managers with tasks such as creating creative briefs and asset requests, and compiling marketing metrics for review.
  • Assist with routine, recurring web editing tasks.
  • Demonstrate AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart, and Solution Seeker, including helping other staff demonstrate those values.
  • Value and embrace different identities and perspectives and work toward solutions that reflect lived experiences.
  • Collaborate across AAUM staff and teams, supporting objectives aligned to the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Support University Relations efforts by showing AAUM value to campus partners (schools/colleges and campuses).
  • Continually build digital skills to apply to work.
  • Participate in team meetings and Alumni Association events, including evenings or weekends, and support staff retreats including offsite, overnight retreats at Camp Michigania.
  • Provide support to the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, committees, and volunteers as needed, and coordinate special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required, share knowledge internally, and support the Alumni Association’s vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
  • Remain current on technology and university educational resources.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience managing social media or digital content to increase engagement within a brand.
  • Strong understanding of the University of Michigan brand.
  • Ability to use Google Suite (mail, sheets, docs, slides, chat, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to build your own digital skill set.
  • Team player approach with a strong collaboration mindset.
  • Excellent written communication skills for social media.
  • Proven ability to generate creative, innovative solutions with a can-do, results-driven attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders and colleagues in an environment shaped by different perspectives and lived experiences.

Supervision

  • Direct supervision from the Director of Marketing and Business Development.
  • May supervise part-time or student employees.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Alumni Center, Ann Arbor, MI (hybrid).
  • Currently requires 2 days in the office per week.
  • Starting the week of September 13th, requires 3 days in the office per week.
  • Eligible hybrid or mobile/remote work modes are determined by the hiring department.
  • Occasional travel is required.
