Senior Specialist: Business Development and Marketing (Energy)

Job Description

Based in Houston, Mayer Brown LLP is seeking a Senior Specialist in Energy focused business development and marketing. This role shapes and executes energy-oriented BD initiatives, partnering with lawyers and firm leadership to drive client growth and strengthen market positioning. The position offers a salary range of USD 98,000 to USD 130,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support business development team members and lawyers in executing on business plans and client strategies, with tracking of implementation and progress.
  • Communicate successes of assigned groups internally, share best practices, and coordinate support initiatives across BD and Marketing departments and offices.
  • Support thought leadership publications and offerings, including project management and data mining for BD opportunities; ensure robust distribution internally and promote externally on LinkedIn and other platforms.
  • Support direct marketing and BD programs such as planning and executing podcasts and videos, seminars, sponsorships, and events; serve as a central logistics resource and manage communications, invitations, RSVPs, and internal/external promotion.
  • Support research, data collection and analysis, directory submissions (Chambers), matter coding, economic reporting, intranet development, and internal meeting support.
  • Collect matter data for energy globally and manage the matter database to ensure data quality and firm-wide availability.
  • Develop and maintain industry survey and directory ranking content, respond to survey requests or ranking submissions.
  • Track global pipeline activities and engage in research, competitive intelligence, and strategic planning for BD activities; identify speaking opportunities.
  • Consult with lawyers on profiles/bios to ensure they remain current.
  • Leverage the Firm’s InterAction CRM for BD purposes, including activity reports and contact lists, and maintaining communications.
  • Assist in developing proposals and client presentations, gather materials, draft language, proofread, and support timely delivery to meet deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain group marketing content such as group/matter descriptions, brochures, presentations, website/blog content, social posts, and biographies.
  • Provide support for Houston-based seminars, sponsorships, and other firm initiatives when relevant.
  • Manage projects and processes with limited supervision, and provide guidance to junior department members.
  • Ensure understanding of graphic design processes, best practices, and firm policies among stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet firm goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, or a related field requiring analytical and advanced writing and research skills.
  • Six years of experience in business development, marketing, or research in professional services, with a preference for law.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the energy market preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to schedule and participate in video conferences in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with research techniques and databases used for competitive intelligence in professional services (e.g., Manzama, Capital IQ, Mergermarket, LexisNexis, Lexology).
