Job Description

A Marketing Communications Specialist position with the University of Michigan focuses on planning and executing creative marketing that highlights the Institute for the Humanities' exhibitions, programs, research, and partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Strategize, develop, and implement multiple annual marketing plans to publicize IH programming and events, engaging campus and surrounding communities.
  • Present work to key stakeholders, clearly explaining assignments and the rationale behind proposals and decisions.
  • Proactively seek new ideas and outlets to boost the visibility of humanities broadly, the institute, and its events.
  • Develop and execute the institute's social media strategy, aligned with overall communications goals.
  • Craft compelling content that tells the stories of the institute, its people, programs, and impact for diverse audiences.
  • Identify and apply tools to analyze and evaluate print, digital, social media, web, and other campaigns; produce user-friendly reports and provide strategic recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Develop creative concepts and translate them into visually engaging designs across print and digital media.
  • Manage workload effectively and proactively communicate resource or timeline considerations to your supervisor.
  • Develop and adhere to marketing budgets.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of professional experience related to the responsibilities outlined.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, using the latest design tools, and a professional approach to AI tools when appropriate.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating successful marketing and social media campaigns with proven growth in followers and engagement.
  • Positive, can-do attitude with flexible problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate conceptual thinking and creative problem solving.
  • Passion for bringing the value of the humanities to life visually and textually.

About the Institute

The Institute for the Humanities (IH) facilitates humanities research across University of Michigan campuses and surrounding communities. It provides fellowships to faculty, graduate students, and visiting scholars and hosts public and scholarly programming, including lectures, workshops, and exhibitions.

Modes of Work

This is a full-time hybrid role. Typical hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with scheduling determined by the supervisor. For the first six months, on-site work is required five days per week at the Institute's central campus office. Afterward, on-site presence is required a minimum of 3-4 days per week, with occasional on-site meetings or events. Some work outside the standard schedule, including evenings and weekends, may occur. Hybrid or remote arrangements are at the department's discretion and reviewed annually.

Additional Information

Salary range: USD 56,800 - 71,000 per year. Higher offers may be considered based on equity and experience.
