Director of Content Marketing
Job Description
Cogent Security is hiring a Founding Director of Content Marketing based in San Francisco, CA (onsite). This role owns how Cogent sounds and is responsible for building an AI-native content engine designed to drive pipeline, strengthen narrative, and scale output with accuracy.
What You’ll Own
- End-to-end ownership of Cogent’s content engine, including the calendar and content series that compound over time.
- Leadership of weekly and evergreen programming such as VM insights, AI security myths, and remediation playbooks across a LinkedIn-first social approach, blog, video, and long-form formats.
- SEO and AEO ownership to ensure content is discoverable by buyers and by models shaping how people find information.
- Pipeline connection and measurement to understand which pieces move deals and to increase output of what performs.
- Creation of top- and middle-of-funnel content that attracts practitioners and guides buyers toward a decision, including blog posts, ebooks, and whitepapers.
- Social strategy ownership, including ongoing series and time-sensitive posts that maintain a consistent drumbeat of Cogent’s point of view.
- Ghostwriting support for the CEO, CTO, and technical leaders, maintaining a consistent voice backed by a real point of view.
- Building repeatable systems to capture raw material using leader interviews, Slack mining, call notes, and research briefs.
- Transforming raw inputs into thought leadership that security practitioners read, share, and return to.
- Turning Cogent Research, threat findings, and product insight into original analysis that earns attention and generates pipeline.
- Ownership of the flagship research report and related programming in partnership with the research team and the CTO.
- Fast response to breaking security news by shipping POV content while relevance is high.
- Use of AI across the workflow plus orchestration of contractors and tools so a small team ships like a larger one without sacrificing accuracy or voice.
- Development of systems that speed the engine, including a living archive of positioning, proof, and research usable across the company.
- Setting the editorial standard and coordinating outputs while continuing to write the pieces that matter most.
Requirements
- 8-10+ years in content roles in B2B tech, with cybersecurity strongly preferred.
- A track record of content that drove real business outcomes, including content-sourced pipeline, organic traffic and rankings, and engagement leading to meetings.
- Experience doing the work at a small company, where you operated as the engine by shipping regularly without relying on a large team, a large budget, or another person’s strategy.
- Excellent writing and editorial judgment, with the ability to build a point of view and explain complex security topics clearly and credibly.
- Proven executive ghostwriting experience, supported by a system for capturing leadership voice.
- Fluency with AI in the actual work, including the ability to walk through a workflow you built, where it broke, and the changes you made.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience packaging research such as threat reports, benchmarks, and original analysis.
- Experience running SEO through agencies or contractors, plus a working point of view on AEO.
- Production ability beyond writing, including short video, explainers, visual assets, or the judgment to direct contractors producing them.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management, exposure management, or AppSec/CloudSec adjacencies.
