Job Description

Oversees the Marketing, Communications (Public Relations), and Tourism Divisions and directs all SAT marketing programs, brand strategy, and execution to attract leisure travelers and airport attendees locally, nationally, and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate marketing activities by setting online engagement goals and earned media value, while administering advertising budgets to meet those goals.
  • Supervise Public Relations and Marketing agency resources and allocate budgets to reach pre‑set objectives.
  • Direct media strategy development and manage negotiations and plan execution for traditional, digital, and social channels.
  • Direct the supervision of Division Directors and assist Marketing Managers in delivering Marketing, Advertising, Consumer, Tourism, and Communications programs.
  • Direct brand and customer experience research to inform Sales Advertising, Branding, and Communication strategies.
  • Steward brand initiatives and steer the brand’s strategic evolution.
  • Handle internal and external communications needs, acting as a spokesperson for media inquiries.
  • Provide crisis management communications supervision.
  • Lead Division Managers in developing budgets, work programs, and short- and long-term sales and marketing plans.
  • Oversee technology requirements and capabilities for the divisions.
  • Assign special projects, including events and other initiatives as directed by leadership.
  • Coordinate partnerships with the San Antonio hotel and attractions sector to create joint sales and marketing programs for conventions, meetings, and leisure travel.
  • Represent the organization’s interests at industry functions as needed.
  • Prepare division activity reports, including monthly dashboards, website analytics, and social/digital results.
  • Oversee special projects and related information technology issues.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Six years of Marketing/Advertising and Communications experience focused on destination promotions.
  • Must pass Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment and Criminal History Records check upon employment.
  • Must maintain federally mandated airport security clearance at all times.

Job Summary

Under general direction, supervises the Marketing, Communications (Public Relations), and Tourism Divisions. Manages SAT marketing programs, brand strategy, and execution to attract leisure travelers and airport attendees locally, nationally, and internationally. Working conditions are primarily office based. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of destination brand development, brand management, and cooperative promotions.
  • Knowledge of hospitality industry sales and marketing practices.
  • Knowledge of traditional, digital, and social media strategy, negotiation, and management.
  • Knowledge of advertising and promotion principles, with emphasis on conventions and the visitor economy.
  • Knowledge of local visitor attractions and meeting facilities.
  • Knowledge of the needs of local hotels and attractions.
  • Knowledge of trends in traditional, digital, social media, research methods, and technology.
  • Knowledge of advertising terminology, procedures, practices, and methods.
  • Knowledge of supervision, training, and personnel management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration practices.
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment; proficiency with hospitality industry software and databases.
  • Skill in using PC and internet applications for hospitality industry needs and database management.
  • Ability to develop new techniques and strategies for more efficient operations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in marketing and airport communications.
  • Five years of experience managing a marketing, creative, or PR agency or similar.
  • American Association of Airport Executives membership.
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.

Applicant Information

  • Substitution policy: two years of related full-time experience may substitute one year of higher education, or one year of higher education may substitute two years of experience to meet minimum requirements.
