Marketing and Communications Specialist
Job Description
Project Homeless Connect Washington County is seeking a part-time Marketing and Communications Specialist to help shape communications that build awareness, deepen engagement, and strengthen community support. This hybrid role supports PHC’s mission through storytelling, digital content, and creative outreach that highlights programs, partnerships, and services for Washington County audiences.
The Specialist will help maintain PHC’s communications channels across social media, email, press outreach, and the website. The work also includes producing event and stakeholder content, supporting fundraising communications, and tracking communications performance to guide future strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a consistent social media presence aligned with PHC’s mission, campaigns, and priorities, including creating and scheduling approximately 3 posts per week using the “Educate, Inspire, Ask” model.
- Develop and send 1–3 newsletters per month.
- Maintain and grow the email list for community outreach.
- Use platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Hootsuite, YouTube, LinkedIn, and others as PHC’s presence grows.
- Manage comments, messages, and other social media engagement.
- Identify and share stories that highlight program impact, client successes (with appropriate consent), volunteer engagement, donor partnerships, and community collaborations.
- Translate organizational activities and outcomes into accessible stories for community audiences.
- Support multimedia content creation, including short videos, interviews, and potential podcast content related to PHC programs, partners, and community impact.
- Write and distribute press releases for major events and announcements.
- Maintain an updated database of media contacts.
- Create signage, flyers, and digital assets aligned with PHC brand standards for major events, temporary programs, fundraising activities, and community outreach.
- Maintain and update website content, including program information, events, news, employment opportunities, and organizational updates.
- Ensure website content is accurate, timely, accessible, and aligned with PHC communications goals and brand standards.
- Create and format web content, including images, graphics, and written updates.
- Collaborate with external website partners or vendors on updates, improvements, and troubleshooting as needed.
- Assist with compiling PHC’s annual impact report and quarterly program reports.
- Produce an “Impact Snapshot” after each One Day Event to share with stakeholders.
- Track and report on communications metrics, including social media engagement, email performance, website activity, and other outreach indicators.
- Support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, sponsorship recognition, and special initiatives through written and visual content.
- Assist with creation of donor-facing materials, presentations, and campaign updates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and at least 2 years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing for public audiences (social media, newsletters, press releases, etc.).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, design tools such as Canva, and social media platforms.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging, audience-centered communications.
- Commitment to PHC’s mission and ability to communicate respectfully about individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when sharing stories and information related to program participants.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, community partners, donors, and volunteers.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently while thriving in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Experience
- Background in social media management, email marketing, and/or website content updates.
- Experience updating websites through a CMS such as WordPress.
- Experience creating flyers, signage, and short videos for events or campaigns, with video editing strongly preferred.
- Experience with photography and videography, including capturing content at community events.
- Experience working with organizations that serve vulnerable populations, especially people experiencing homelessness.

- Location: Hybrid; PHC Offices in Hillsboro, OR
- Compensation: $26–$28 per hour
