Job Description

Marketing Specialist role based onsite in Britt, IA, focused on identifying ideal market hogs by site and route, developing marketing plans to meet system weight targets, and coordinating cross-functional activities to maximize pig value.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine site visits to verify marketing previews, marketing plans, top weight hog identification, and loading accuracy in line with ISF protocols.
  • Implement strategies to achieve the company and geographic area marketing and economic goals, including production performance, revenue, marketing, and cost-management KPIs.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to address issues or concerns requiring action from other areas of the business.
  • Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market readiness.
  • Ensure site managers and load crews have the supplies, tools, and facilities needed to load market hogs on schedule.
  • Coordinate with the transportation team to reschedule loads to maximize overall average weights and meet targets for standard deviation and coefficient of variation on non-closeout loads.
  • Understand ideal market weights and adjust marketing dates through previews and physical weighing when necessary.
  • Reduce sort loss premiums for individual pigs and loads while maintaining a high percentage of full value market hogs sent to packing plants.
  • Develop and implement site-specific marketing plans; provide training on technical production skills, site maintenance, and development of finish supervisors, independent contractors, and ISF direct employees.
  • Monitor pig health and communicate with the Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor about field conditions.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
  • Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage and transport duties.
  • Pickup and delivery of supplies in a timely manner.
  • Assist supervisors in identifying animals requiring timely euthanasia and complete euthanasia per ISF protocols.
  • Support strategy development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain critical attendance; report to work as scheduled and be ready to commence activities in barns at start times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Purpose of Position

Own the identification of ideal market hogs by site and route to meet system weight targets while reducing weight variation, minimizing sort loss, and maximizing the share of pigs delivered to a primary packer, while suggesting marketing strategy adjustments as needed.

Work Environment

  • Some tasks may be performed in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work locations can be loud; exposure to fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts is possible.
  • Nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in winter months, may be present.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, sit; use hands to manipulate objects; reach with arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Continually perform repetitive motions such as bending and lifting as tasks require.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds; climb ladders and navigate gates.
  • Climb in and out of livestock trailers that may be as short as 48 inches high.

Position Type and Hours

  • Full-time role; minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Day shift, Monday through Friday; occasional evenings or weekends may be required.
  • Additional availability may be needed during staffing challenges.

Travel

  • Regular travel required; operation involves use of a company vehicle.

Education, Experience and Other Qualifications

  • Previous experience in swine production operations is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency to run reports, perform data entry, use email, Word, Excel, and navigate the company tools site to access important documents.
