Wean-to-Finish Marketing Specialist
Job Description
Based at Iowa Select Farms in Britt, Iowa, the Wean-to-Finish Marketing Specialist drives site-level marketing programs for market hogs within a defined production system. The role blends regular on-site visits, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven planning to hit weight targets and maximize value at each location. It involves coordinating loading and transport, communicating across teams, and continually refining marketing strategies to improve overall performance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine site visits to verify marketing previews, plans, identification of top weight hogs, and loading accuracy in line with ISF protocols and expectations.
- Execute strategies to achieve the company and geographic-area marketing and economic goals, including production performance, revenue, marketing, and cost-management KPIs.
- Communicate cross-functionally to address issues identified or concerns requiring input from other areas of the business.
- Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market.
- Ensure site managers and load crews have the necessary supplies, tools, and facilities to load market hogs at the scheduled time.
- Collaborate with the transportation department to reschedule loads as needed to maximize overall average weights and meet targets for standard deviation and coefficient of variation on non-closeout loads.
- Understand ideal market weights and adjust marketing dates through site visits and physical weighing when necessary.
- Minimize sort loss premiums for individual pigs and loads while emphasizing the goal of sending full-value market hogs to packing plants.
- Develop and implement site-specific marketing plans; provide training on technical production skills, site maintenance, and development of finish supervisors, independent contractors, and ISF direct employees.
- Monitor overall health of pigs and communicate with the Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor about field conditions.
- Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
- Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage and ensure timely pickup and delivery of supplies.
- Collaborate with supervisors to identify animals needing timely euthanasia and complete the euthanasia process per ISF protocols.
- Assist leadership in strategy development and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain reliable attendance and be ready to work at scheduled start times.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Previous experience in swine production operations is preferred.
- Proficiency with computer tools to run reports, enter data, manage email, and create Word and Excel documents; ability to navigate the company tools site to locate important documents.
