Job Description

The Phoenix Symphony is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications. This full-time, on-site role in downtown Phoenix offers a salary of USD 65,000 - 75,000 per year and a benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth. You will lead day-to-day integrated marketing campaigns, oversee the organization's website and digital presence, shape strategic messaging, produce and guide video content, and spearhead promotional activities in collaboration with multiple departments to advance the Symphony's mission.

Location: Phoenix, AZ (onsite). Minimum five years of marketing experience and a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in launching initiatives that raise community visibility, boost attendance and subscriptions, grow audiences, and increase revenue.
  • Oversee and mentor the Marketing and Communications Assistant, guiding professional development and ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Direct the Assistant in managing website and digital marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate across departments to support institutional priorities and maintain consistent messaging.
  • Represent the Marketing Department at concerts, special events, donor functions, and community activities.
  • Coordinate campaign timelines, production schedules, and creative deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Oversee the annual print production and advertising calendar, including season brochures, direct mail, program books, promotional materials, and print placements.
  • Work with internal teams and external vendors to ensure effective campaign execution.
  • Plan, produce, edit, and publish video content that supports marketing and promotional goals.
  • Capture photography and videography during concerts, rehearsals, community programs, and events.
  • Guide content development and creative execution for campaigns featuring guest artists and Symphony programs.
  • Provide on-site marketing support for concerts, events, and community engagement activities.

Requirements

  • Exceptional written, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and video creation software.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems, email marketing platforms, and CRM databases.
  • Experience with ticketing software.
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to oversee messaging across multiple channels.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with video production and editing software.
  • Working knowledge of email marketing platforms, CRM systems, and social media management tools.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across departments.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for concerts and events.
  • Minimum five years of progressive marketing experience.
  • Experience in performing arts, symphony orchestras, nonprofit arts, live events, or cultural organizations strongly preferred.
  • Proven success in executing integrated marketing campaigns that drive attendance and revenue.
  • Experience managing websites, digital content, email marketing, and social media campaigns.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Work environment

This role resides in a standard office setting with typical equipment, including computers and printed materials. You will read, view, and communicate in person, virtually, and by phone. Regular attendance at concerts, events, and community activities, including evenings and weekends, is required to align with the Symphony's performance schedule.

Compensation, benefits, and location

Compensation is commensurate with experience, within USD 65,000 - 75,000 per year. This is a full-time, in-person position based in downtown Phoenix. Onsite work is required to support concerts and community activities.
