Job Description
The Digital Communications Specialist role at MIT SA+P focuses on shaping the school’s digital presence across web, social media, email, and emerging platforms. The position oversees day-to-day digital publishing and contributes to MIT’s broader communications strategy from an onsite location in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
- Shape the school’s digital footprint across the web, social channels, email campaigns, and emerging platforms.
- Oversee day-to-day digital publishing activities to maintain timely and accurate content.
- Contribute to the broader communications strategy and align digital initiatives with institutional goals.
- Develop and curate content that integrates architecture, urban planning, design, and media arts while highlighting the school’s research, teaching, exhibitions, public programs, and initiatives.
- Source and coordinate content from departments, labs, centers, and institutes across the school.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, design, or related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in digital communications, preferably in higher education, the cultural sector, or a mission-driven organization.
- Solid writing and editing skills; ability to adjust tone for different audiences and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent editorial judgment in managing institutional digital communications.
- Experience managing social media accounts and publishing web content; familiarity with accessibility, SEO, and AEO best practices.
- Experience working with content management systems and email marketing platforms such as Drupal and Mailchimp.
- Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with analytics tools, including Google Analytics.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into engaging, accessible content for diverse audiences across multiple digital channels.
