Job Description

On-site opportunity in Redding, California with a competitive hourly range of $21 to $25 per hour. This role offers flexible scheduling as full-time or part-time based on qualifications and preferences, and you will join a collaborative university communications team focused on delivering engaging content, clear messaging, and cross-channel marketing support across blogs, press materials, digital channels, and institutional communications. The position involves media relations, enrollment communications, and a broad slate of storytelling responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Write blog posts for the university website featuring student and alumni stories, program highlights, and campus news.
  • Draft and distribute press releases on behalf of the university.
  • Contribute to the Life Together publication, recapping the prior quarter for the Simpson University community.
  • Prepare speeches, talking points, and remarks for university leadership, including the President.
  • Develop and maintain consistent university messaging and institutional communications.
  • Build and manage relationships with local media to secure interviews and coverage.
  • Create written content for marketing campaigns, website pages, and institutional communications.
  • Coordinate email and SMS marketing campaigns and institutional announcements.
  • Develop content and creative assets for student communications across the enrollment funnel (inquiry, applicant, admitted, enrolled), partnering with Admissions.
  • Design graphic assets for marketing materials, social media, and advertising.
  • Capture photography of campus life, events, and athletics for use across marketing channels and communications.
  • Produce short form video content for social media, including campus clips, event highlights, and student testimonials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; degrees in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related fields are preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, content writing, or a related role; higher education experience is preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills across formats such as blog posts, press releases, web copy, emails, publications, and speeches.
  • Experience with media relations and securing local media coverage.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (eg, Mailchimp, Constant Contact) or CRM-integrated tools.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or comparable design software.
  • Photography and video production skills are preferred.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, precise, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team.

Physical requirements

Typical working conditions are indoors in a controlled environment. Responsibilities largely involve computer-based work.

  • Essential physical tasks include sitting for long periods while using a computer; fine dexterity and repetitive hand motions are part of the role.
  • Other considerations may include keyboard use, grasping and handling, and potential driving or vehicle operation.
