Based in Iowa City, the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health at the University of Iowa is seeking a Marketing and Communications Manager to lead branding, marketing, and outreach efforts. This on-site, part-time role focuses on shaping strategic plans, campaigns, and partnerships to raise awareness and expand the center’s impact on services, research, and professional learning.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute yearly marketing and communications strategies aligned with the Center’s mission, priorities, and organizational goals.
- Lead integrated campaigns that raise visibility of clinical services, research initiatives, professional learning opportunities, technical assistance, consultation services, and community partnerships.
- Represent the Center at conferences, networking events, community meetings, and outreach activities.
- Foster relationships with school districts, Area Education Agencies, healthcare and community organizations, universities, state agencies, nonprofits, and professional associations.
- Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships to increase awareness and use of Center services.
- Oversee website strategy and collaborate with technical staff to keep content current, engaging, accessible, and user-centered.
- Enhance digital communications through search engine optimization, accessibility standards, and strong user experience practices.
- Stay abreast of emerging digital trends and propose innovative outreach approaches.
- Track website traffic, social media analytics, email metrics, event participation, and other key performance indicators.
- Analyze stakeholder engagement and market trends to identify opportunities for expanding reach and impact.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for conferences, workshops, webinars, community events, and Center-sponsored activities.
- Coordinate promotional materials, event communications, registration support, exhibits, and branded materials.
- Manage contracts, purchasing, and expenditures related to marketing and communications initiatives.
- Collaborate with vendors, designers, printers, photographers, and other external partners to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of products and services.
- Serve as the Center’s primary advisor on marketing and strategic communications.
- Consult with Center leadership on communication strategies that support organizational priorities and long‑term growth.
Requirements
- Three to five years of relevant experience in strategic marketing, communications, outreach, brand management, or business development.
- Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive marketing and strategic communications plans that align with organizational goals.
- Experience delivering integrated campaigns across digital, print, web, email, and social media to boost awareness, engagement, and participation.
- Experience creating and managing content across multiple channels, including websites, newsletters, emails, social media, print publications, presentations, and multimedia.
- History of building and sustaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders such as clients, community and educational organizations, healthcare organizations, government agencies, nonprofits, and external partners.
- Strong capability to analyze marketing data, evaluate campaigns, and use insights to drive strategic decisions and continuous improvement.
- Experience with content management systems, email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and digital analytics (e.g., Google Analytics or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for varied audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and build positive relationships within a large organization.
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and represent the Center and the University professionally.
