Based in Hartselle, Alabama, onsite, the Marketing and Business Development Manager will oversee on-site marketing, communications, community engagement, sponsorship outreach, and growth initiatives for Hartselle Parks & Recreation. The role focuses on increasing participation, program awareness, community partnerships, and revenue across rentals, sponsorships, tournaments, camps, leagues, retail, and special events.
Position Summary
The Marketing and Business Development Manager leads the daily activities spanning marketing, communications, community engagement, sponsorship outreach, and business development for Hartselle Parks & Recreation. The position aims to boost community involvement, raise program visibility, strengthen partnerships, and support revenue growth across rentals, sponsorships, tournaments, camps, leagues, retail, and special events.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the marketing department, including annual strategy, budgeting, goal setting, and timeline management.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop and execute campaigns that achieve sales and revenue targets.
- Highlight the experiential value of tournaments and events in marketing efforts.
- Build strategic relationships with tourism offices, tournament operators, and media to position Hartselle Parks & Recreation as a national sports destination.
- Leverage cross-marketing initiatives to motivate coaches and team representatives to utilize available amenities.
- Forecast requirements, assist in annual budgeting, manage expenditures, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate advertising, merchandising, and trade promotion programs; craft sales action plans.
- Identify market opportunities, improve product packaging, and coordinate new product development to enhance marketability and profitability.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Create digital and print content.
- Manage updates to the venue website, write and distribute press releases, and oversee social media channels.
- Prepare and present regular reports on marketing and business development strategies and results.
- Conduct interviews with players, coaches, and spectators to promote facility experiences.
- Oversee the retail department, including preparation, staff training, equipment use and care, product quality, and customer service.
- Participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications; maintain personal networks; join professional organizations.
- Collaborate with the in-house marketing agency to plan and execute marketing initiatives.
- Uphold the values of accountability, collaboration, excellence, and service.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, Public Relations, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, business development, event promotion, recreation, tourism, hospitality, or a related field.
- Experience managing a marketing and/or business development budget; identifying and creating opportunities or promotions to deliver revenue goals.
- Ability to measure and report on marketing/advertising campaign analytics to evaluate ROI, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Experience managing social media platforms, digital marketing campaigns, email marketing, and community engagement initiatives.
- Experience conducting marketing research to gain consumer insights (local, regional, and national) to identify selling points for attracting corporate/organization relationships including sponsorships or financial partnerships, or business development activities.
- Experience developing partnerships, sponsorships, or community relationships with local businesses, schools, organizations, and tourism partners.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and social media management platforms is preferred.
- Ability to use multiple platforms or software for tasks such as cloud file management or project management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create content for a variety of audiences.
- Comfort capturing photo/video content and promoting programs, events, and community experiences across digital platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and events in a fast paced environment.
- Team player, deadline-driven, and available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and long hours.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills, creativity, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
