Onsite role in El Cajon, CA supporting SMSC's fundraising, donor engagement, marketing, communications, and community outreach.
Responsibilities
- Foster and sustain productive relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners.
- Process donations and ensure accurate recording in the donor system.
- Maintain donor files and perform routine database housekeeping to preserve data integrity.
- Produce donor reports, targeted mailing lists, and fundraising analytics.
- Coordinate timely donor acknowledgments and thank you notes.
- Oversee ongoing recurring gifts and follow up on declined payments.
- Support annual giving campaigns, direct mail campaigns, and donor cultivation activities.
- Uphold the SMSC Donor Recognition and Acknowledgment Wall.
- Assemble welcome packets for visitors, donors, and new student families.
- Reconcile donations, checks, and credit card transactions with Accounting monthly.
- Assist in creating brochures, invitations, newsletters, fundraising appeals, presentations, and promotional collateral.
- Draft and send email campaigns, fundraising messages, organizational announcements, and event promotions.
- Collect participant success stories, photos, and program updates to illustrate impact.
- Help maintain consistent branding, messaging, and voice across print and digital materials.
- Coordinate with designers, printers, photographers, media outlets, and other vendors.
- Support social media and marketing efforts to raise community awareness and donor engagement.
- Solicit event sponsorships, vendor participation, auction donations, and attendees.
- Procure in-kind donations for auctions and raffle drawings.
- Prepare sponsorship, vendor, and participant packets.
- Assist with event logistics, registration, volunteer coordination, and on-site execution.
- Prepare post-event reports, donor recognition, and fundraising summaries.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends to support fundraising events.
- Assist the Grant Writer with proposals, reporting, acknowledgment letters, and grant tracking.
- Help maintain grant deadlines and reporting timetables.
- Coordinate community outreach efforts and represent the organization at events.
- Prepare and deliver promotional baskets and materials for chamber events and community organizations.
- Coordinate Development Committee meetings and fundraising meetings.
- Prepare agendas, meeting materials, invitations, minutes, and follow-up communications.
- Reserve meeting space and arrange refreshments.
- Maintain confidentiality of donor and organizational information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Business, Public Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience with donor database management and CRM software.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with mail merge and database reporting.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Chief Executive Officer, the Development & Marketing Coordinator advances SMSC's fundraising and marketing initiatives. This role supports donor stewardship, database management, communications, grant support, community partnerships, and signature fundraising events while ensuring an exceptional experience for donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community members.
